Designing, Building & Maintaining Dashboards with Tableau
This course is based on our workshop at the European and Worldwide Tableau Customer Conference. Dashboards are an ideal means of sharing key findings with Tableau. Achieving great success with dashboards requires a variety of skills- communication, analysis, visual design, data management and Tableau expertise. This workshop uses a case study approach, integrating lecture with hands-on experience.

Topics covered include:

  • Framing dashboard efforts with a solid understanding of business needs
  • A review of dashboard types, typical challenges, best practices and examples of good and poor dashboards
  • A detailed review of Tableau functionality relevant to dashboard development and deployment
  • Multiple dashboard case studies will be jointly developed and reviewed throughout the course.
  • When taught on-site, the course is typically followed by one to two days of consultative dashboard development, refinement and review with key team members.

Prerequisite- this course requires a moderate level of Tableau experience, at a level of knowledge acquired from understanding the book, “Rapid Graphs with Tableau Software“.

There is no substitute for learning at the feet of a master. And I’m not just saying this because I coordinate training for AEA. I’d been using Tableau Software for months. I’d read Stephen’s book. I’d watched Tableau’s free webinars (which are quite good by the way if you’re a Tableau user).”

“However, in four days of live training I (a) built confidence in the areas where I was on the right track; (b) learned multiple minute details and in particular time-saving shortcuts that only became apparent when seeing someone demonstrate the concepts and software in real time, and (c) moved through roadblocks that I had not been able to surmount via reference manuals and trial-and-error. I’ll now not only be faster, but also more capable and able to produce a better product.”
